Halloween is fast approaching and a lot of kids as well as adults are looking forward to it. Most homes will hold Halloween parties with great food and candies. Because of this, it’s very easy to fall on an unhealthy diet. However, if you want to survive Halloween without blowing a healthy diet, you can make use of these excellent and effective Halloween survival tips.
When buying candies for Halloween, do it on the last minute; it would be unwise to shop for candies at an earlier date because once you have it at home, you will be tempted to eat them.
Also, try to purchase the candies that you don’t like. For instance, if you love chocolates and almonds don’t buy them and instead, try to purchase the ones you don’t want to eat like coconut candies, strawberry candies, etc.
If you find it hard to curb your cravings for sweets during Halloween, purchase only low-fat candies or better yet, don’t buy candies. Instead, get non-food items for the goody bags like playdough, pencils, and stickers.
When you’re invited to a Halloween party, try to seat far away from the table where the snacks are being served. You can also bring extra snacks but only the healthy ones. Before going to the party, you must eat first so that you’re already full when you arrive at the party. If you can find fresh fruits at the party, pick them instead of the sweets. You can also eat the dessert or sweet snacks but only in small portions.
If you have kids who go out to trick or treat, you can teach them about healthy food items, about donating or splitting treats, trading treats, and saving the treats. You should not only concentrate on your health or diet but also your kids as well. Too much sugar is not good for the body. Try to screen the treats that your kids collected and teach them about proper nutrition. Tell them that the treats containing shortening or hydrogenated oils are not good and so they should give them away. You should also teach your kids about donation or sharing. For instance, tell your kids to share their treats to all the members of the family or donate the candies to a food bank or the candy dish at home.
Don’t allow your kids to consume the candies in one sitting. In fact, if you put the candies in individual bags, the candies can last for a couple of weeks to several months. By doing so, you can limit the consumption of sweets. And of course, take it easy. After all, Halloween comes once a year. Moderation should be your primary objective but don’t eliminate the sweets altogether.
Eat only the candies that are low in calories and sugar. Always check the label so that you can determine the calorie or sugar content of the candies you’re eating. That way, even if you eat lots of candies, you can still keep track of your health.
Eat healthy even in Halloween.
